Summer’s all about good times, late nights, and spontaneous adventures — but the best vibes start with smart choices. With more people on the road heading to beaches, parties, and road trips, it’s super important to vibe your ride — that means staying alert, making safe calls, and looking out for your mates.

This summer, we’re rolling out quick, creative videos on our social media to remind everyone that safe rides make for the best memories. We want to hear from you — students and partners — about how you’re keeping the good vibes going and the roads safe. Share your top tips, stories, or messages and help us show Aotearoa how to truly vibe your ride this summer.

  • Submit a video for our campaign!

  • Come up with your own summer road safety message and share it with your school or community. You could even see if you can get it shared on your school’s Facebook page or website.

  • Share others’ clips on your own social media page(s) to help spread awareness

  • Check out the activities and summer inspiration below

Download the below social images and logos to use on your own pages this summer!

  1. Get a group together, or go solo! Both options are great.

  2. Pick a message you want to share. Consider the theme - “Vibe your Ride”

  3. Plan your video to be up to 45 seconds maximum (we’re looking for short and snappy messages!)

  4. Film your clip! Make sure your sound is clear and there is no background noise or wind. Check your location too, a clear background is great. A handy tip is to have some footage at the start and end of your talking, because that makes it a lot easier to edit. Start to film and simply count to three in your head before starting to talk. Do the same once you finish talking and stop filming.

  5. Don’t worry about adding any intro or ending graphics - we will do this part

  6. Submit your video by email to mark@sadd.org.nz by the 1st of December. You may need to save it to Google Drive or Dropbox and then email the link if it is a large file.

Here is an example from last year’s summer campaign, “Safety is the reason, all summer season”

Here are some activity ideas that we recommend giving a go!
These activities are great for Term 4 school activities or for something you can run with other groups, such as a youth group, over the summer holidays. These activities all relate to relevant themes that lead into the summer period and are a fantastic way to get your peers thinking about how they can remember safety is the reason, all summer season!

Run a competition where young people compete with their peers to see who can change a tyre the fastest. Teach a valuable road safety skill whilst having fun!

Place SADD Advisory Notices on the windscreen of cars at school to raise awareness of key road safety issues and to promote safe choices. These can be found in the downloads section.

Challenge participants to complete a task under different time conditions to demonstrate the effect of speed on concentration and reaction times.
