Introducing Mark!
You may have heard whispers about SADD getting another Delivery Lead in the South Island, and those whispers are true! We are very excited to introduce you all to Mark our new Delivery Lead for the lower South Island. It is awesome to have another team member on board, and we know Mark is going to do a great job. Mark will be based in Christchurch working with Lydia to support the South Island, so let's get to know a bit more about him!
So Mark, tell us a little about yourself?
Hi everyone!
I grew up in ōtautahi Christchurch and I went to Burnside High School. My favourite subjects at school were media studies, English and drama. I was in lots of school productions and was also part of the school theatre sports team in years 11,12 and 13. I played cricket and was captain of my Burnside team, I also played squash and rugby. In my work life, I have been a paper-boy, a kitchen hand, a retail assistant, a cinema attendant, a customer service representative, a camera salesperson, a sport and recreation assistant, an outdoor instructor, a programme manager, a team leader, a community participation manager and a teacher aide!
What excites you about working with SADD?
I love connecting with new people and I am particularly passionate about giving young people a voice. I am very excited to meet many new faces and hear what they have to say and share. The events like conference and workshops sound so exciting, I can’t wait to get involved!
What does Road Safety mean to you?
Road safety means protecting yourself and those around you. It’s about putting pride and social pressures aside and actually just doing what is right, being safe. Road safety means focusing on what is in front of you, not how many likes your new post on insta got :D
It’s also not just about driving, road safety involves a whole community of pedestrians, cyclists, scooter-ers, and unicyclists being mindful of hazards and looking out for each other.
You are stuck on a deserted island, what three things do you take with you?
Gosh, this is tricky!!
I can’t really survive without coffee so I’d be hoping to take a lifetime's supply of that!!
Something to listen to music and podcasts on, podcasts are great when you are on your own because it almost feels like you’ve got friends with you!
A pen and paper, I love to write and I would have plenty of time to create heaps of crazy stories
Mark has made a video to introduce himself so check that out below!
Our staff team are pumped to have expanded our Delivery Team as we know that means more support for young people, which is what SADD is all about! If Mark reaches out to you, be friendly and welcoming!
