The summer months are known to be a treacherous time on our roads. The days are longer, temperature warmer and there are plenty of fun things to do. There are road trips, party goers, holidaymakers and all sorts of other reasons why people are travelling more than usual. It’s a really important time to promote safe road user choices and ensure you always choose summer vibes and safe rides!

During the summer, we will be sharing short video messages on our social media channels to remind everyone to make safer choices on the road. We are looking for students and partners to submit their top tips and key messages this summer so read on below to see how you can take part!

  • Submit a video for our campaign!

  • Come up with your own summer road safety message and share it with your school or community. You could even see if you can get it shared on your school’s Facebook page or website.

  • Share other’s clips on your own social media page(s) to help spread awareness

  • Check out the activities and summer inspiration below

  1. Get a group together, or go solo! Both options are great.

  2. Pick a message you want to share. Consider the theme - “summer vibes, safe rides”

  3. Plan your video to be up to one minute maximum (30 seconds is a perfect length)

  4. Film your clip! Make sure your sound is clear and there is no background noise or wind. A handy tip is to have some footage at the start and end of your talking, because that makes it a lot easier to edit. Start to film and simply count to three in your head before starting to talk. Do the same once you finish talking and stop filming.

  5. Don’t worry about adding any intro or ending graphics - we will do this part

  6. Submit your video by email to mark@sadd.org.nz by the 1st of December. You may need to save it to Google Drive or Dropbox and then email the link if it is a large file.

Here is an example from last year’s summer campaign, “Keep summer great, look out for your mates”

These activities are great for Term 4 school activities or for something you can run with other groups, such as a youth group, over the summer holidays. These activities all relate to relevant themes that lead into the summer period and are a fantastic way to get your peers thinking about how they can ensure summer vibes and safe rides!
