6 reasons why attending a SADD workshop is a great decision you can make this term

You might have heard us talking a bit lately about Term One workshops. We do like to go on about them, that’s because we think they’re a pretty great tool to get you set up with SADD.  They’re a bit of taster of what’s to come, a bit of key info, a bit of collaborating with other schools and a whole lot of fun. Want more info to convince you to head along? We’ve put together 6 reasons why heading along to your local SADD workshop this term will be something you will not regret.

1) Learn the basics of SADD

Attending a workshop is one of the best ways to learn what SADD is about and how to get involved in the programme in your school. We structure our workshops so that they are relevant for all levels of experience - whether this is your first rodeo and you aren’t quite sure what SADD stands for yet, or you’ve been around a wee while and have tried your hand at a few activities - our workshops will still be relevant for you.

2) Practice your problem-solving skills

In this year’s workshop we touch on 4 steps of planning an activity/event/campaign with SADD. This includes a problem-solving element and you get to have a go at practicing these 4 steps! We aim to have both practical and theory elements to every workshop to keep it interesting and appeal to different learning styles.

3) Meet your local SADD Programme Delivery Lead

Our Programme Delivery Leads run these workshops and are a brilliant supporter for you and your SADD group. We can’t always be everywhere so attending a workshop is a perfect opportunity to meet them at the beginning of the year and get to know them! In some regions we may also have local community partners attending to connect with you, including Road Safety Coordinators, ACC partners, representatives from NZ Police. These are also going to be key supporters for your SADD group during the year ahead.

4)  Meet SADD students from other schools

Workshops are an awesome chance to meet students from other schools in your area who ay have the same interests and passions as you. It can be a good way to learn from others who have had different experiences so far or maybe they are facing different challenges that you haven’t thought about. We’re all for collaboration here at SADD and school to school collaborations are something we will always encourage and celebrate!

5) Earn volunteer hours

Attending a SADD workshop is an easy and fun way to tick off hours towards your school community awards or service programmes like the SVA Service Award. Even if you’re not working towards a similar initiative, you can still enjoy the kudos from attending and contributing towards our collective goal of safer roads and road users!

6) Kick-start your SADD journey

Many students find that coming along to a SADD workshop is just the start of the adventure. It’s a great taste of what’s to come and a way to hear about the future opportunities like conference, National Leadership Programme, regional projects, Phone Free campaigns, SAFER September…. There is no lack of exciting events on the horizon! Give yourself the chance to learn about all that SADD has to offer by starting with a workshop.
