Day in the life of Jay
Hey there, Jay here and I am the Lower North Island Delivery Lead for SADD. Here’s an insight into what a day in my role looks like!
When did I start with SADD & what did I do before?
I started with SADD at the start of this year and boy what and interesting year it has been.
I have worked in a variety of roles before working with SADD, from working as a full-time firefighter straight out of high school, to then moving overseas and working at the theme parks as a stunt performer, and finally moving back to NZ where I worked in the Recreation and Sports industry. All of these jobs have given me some amazing life experience.
What are my main responsibilities as a Delivery lead?
Working as a Programme Delivery Lead my role varies from day to day. Some days I will be working from the office in town or from home where I will be helping to promote our amazing SADD students’ work , responding to emails , planning for upcoming events and looking into which regions need some support to get started with SADD in their schools.
Other days I can been seen driving the SADD car around the North Island, where I will be visiting schools in different regions, running workshops and planning sessions.
What is my favourite thing about working at SADD?
I really enjoy traveling across our amazing country to different locations, especially ones that I have not visited in a while. Although I am away from my family for a few days, I really enjoy the experience of visiting schools and meeting SADD students.
What a normal day looks like for me:
My alarm usually goes off at 5.45am when I get up have a bit of brekky then say goodbye to my wife and daughter before heading into the office in the Wellington CBD and starting my workday at 0630am ( Yes I am an early bird!)
Next up coffee time…. before checking my daily schedule which I create to help me keep on track with what I need to focus on for the week.
The rest of the morning is checking & responding to email enquiries, catching up with the Wellington team (when we are all in the office together), attending our national team video meeting catch up and then working on a few admin tasks.
The rest of the work day is usually spent visiting local schools who have requested a visit or catching up digitally with other SADD students across the country, hearing what ideas and plans they have coming up and assisting them where I can.
After my workday is complete, I head home and pick my daughter up from daycare, hear about how her day was and spend some time with her before dinner time with the family. Straight after dinner I am out the door again for Volunteer firefighting training (luckily only twice a week).
Hope you have enjoyed this little insight to a day in the life of me :)
