Another successful NLP event in the bag!

From October 8th to 10th, Year 12 National Leaders from across Aotearoa gathered in Ōtautahi, Christchurch for an inspiring three days of leadership development. Together, they honed their skills, collaborated on key projects, and worked to strengthen SADD’s impact on a national scale.

What a way to kick off the journey for this group of Year 12s! Although it was their first time coming together, by the end of the three-day event, you’d never have guessed. Strong connections were quickly built among these like-minded young leaders, all driven by a shared goal: to make a difference for their peers.

The event started by exploring each person's unique leadership style and learning how to collaborate effectively. From there, they established a set of group values and principles, setting the foundation for their work together over the next 18 months.

Kaitiaki o Ara staff were thoroughly impressed by the group’s dedication, insight, and hard work. Every participant gave it their all, approaching the experience with both seriousness and enthusiasm. And of course, there was plenty of time for fun, with shared kai, a scavenger hunt, and even a trip to Laser Strike!

Read on to hear what each National Leader had to say about this incredible event! Don’t miss National Leader Brooke’s recap video either, you can find the link below.

Chanalee:

This was a fun event with lots of learning opportunities, whether this was navigation, road safety or laser tag!

Brooke:

Hey I’m Brooke, a NLP for SADD and I really enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt. This event evoked many connections within the group and enabled me to meet the other amazing NLP leaders. Another connection that I valued during the NLP trip was connecting with the SADD groups in Canada and America and seeing the way they operate. I am excited to see what happens in the future with these connections.

Ella:

Everyone got along with everyone as soon as we all met for the first time. I also learnt a lot about SADD and what it means to be a leader.

Phoenix:

NLP was amazing love this group of people and the Delivery Leads/staff are amazing. I just know next year will be great.

Pavelyn:

NLP has been very insightful as I have learnt what type of DISC leader I am and it has been great to make connections with like minded peers all over NZ! The free food is also a great added bonus 🙂

The National Leader hui was a valuable and great event. We learnt a lot about who we are as leaders and how we can work together to achieve our joint goals around road safety. Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to more SADD things.
