Road Safety Week 2022 - Who is your Road Safety Hero?
Road Safety Week is just around the corner, 9-15th May, and this year's theme is “Road Safety Heroes”. It’s all about celebrating anyone who makes the roads safer for us. This could be road safety professionals who design the roads, professionals who care for people after a crash, or you! We all have a part to play in keeping our roads safe. Each one of us has the responsibility to make good decisions for our own safety on the roads, and at the same time an opportunity to keep others safe as well.
You as SADD/ Kaitiaki o Ara students play such an important role in the road safety space, and all your contributions are highly valued. You are Road Safety Heroes because you want to make a change and you speak up!
Guess what, we also have a double celebration this week in May, with Youth Week falling into the same week as Road Safety Week. This is even more a reason to celebrate you, and to speak up and join together as a community. Here are some ways you and your SADD/ Kaitiaki o Ara group can get involved in this year's Road Safety Week.
Go yellow and take a photo:
Choose any day between Monday and Thursday of RSW to dress up in yellow and take a photo of your group/students at your school. Send the pictures to lydia@sadd.org.nz by Thursday, May 12th at 5 pm. Check out this link for ideas on how you can decorate yourself with something yellow and have fun :)
Run an activity during Road Safety Week
This could be a great opportunity to run a fun activity at your school. You can run a very simple obstacle course such as ‘Focus or Fail’ or ‘A Roundabout Way’. Another option could be to get creative and create some posters specifically for Road Safety Week and hang them all around your school. Make it fit to your schedule. Anything to raise awareness is a great initiative. Check out our activity hub or the road safety week website to get more inspiration and get in touch with our Delivery Team if you need help.
Participate in the Kahoot from Beca
Check your calendar and see if you have time to join the Kahoot from Beca. Keep an eye out on our social media for the next few weeks when we will post the exact date and time. Expect a lot of questions about the road safety space but be assured there are also some fun questions too. If you are joining as a group, take a picture and send it to lydia@sadd.org.nz to share the fun.
Post a social media clip or picture about your road safety hero
Tell us who your Road Safety Hero is, why you think they are a hero, and maybe even post it on your social media, or send it to us to share on ours! You can either choose to do a little video clip or post a picture. Don’t forget to tag @SADDnz in it.
You can find more information and how to participate in the Road Safety Week here, and register here to receive your Road Safety Action pack.
There are so many ways to get involved this RSW, some of your local community partners may also be getting involved so reaching out to them could be a good idea. We are looking forward to seeing all your contributions to Road Safety Week and Youth Week. Let your voice be heard! Thank you for being our heroes.
