Year 12 NLP event recap

In the second week of the school holidays we ran our Yr 12 NLP event in Ōtautahi - Christchurch. We had 10 of our 12 National Leaders from all over NZ come together to develop their own leadership skills, learn more about the NLP and road safety issues, work on content for SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara, and give their feedback on future projects. They were an awesome group of rangatahi and we know that they will achieve some awesome stuff over the next year or so. Check out what the students had to say about the event below!

Zyon Pinamonti - “The NLP workshop was overall super amazing, filled with so many things and resources that I am excited to take back with me to my SADD group. I really enjoyed being able to meet and engage with people who share the same views as me. I also enjoyed going out and doing practical activities with the other national leaders to help us build a better connection. This has definitely helped my leadership skills and I feel more prepared to really step into the role of national leader for the rest of this year and next year. I really enjoyed making the ads and our talks with Donna, Mark, Lydia, and Bobbi. It has helped us grow and overall create a really fun and interactive environment.”

Dianne Lee - “One of the highlights was meeting new people and staff and being able to create a new connection together. All the activities were so fun and I think these events/activities will be memorable to the end. I loved the team-building games and I learned a lot, especially when the partners came, explaining their roles and positions and how they can help and support us.”

Elise Jung-Leask - “It was great to meet the other national leaders and it was cool to hear about the amazing things that everyone gets up to in their communities! Meeting all of the community partners was really inspiring, and hearing about how passionate about road safety and engaged with youth they are.”

Helen Lim - “This NLP event has been an opportunity of a lifetime experience. On top of the diligent effort, work, and progress towards our own individual leadership development and preventing loss and injuries on our roads - the extraordinary bonds formed between each national leader were exceptional. We all clicked together so well as though we’d known each other all already prior to the event - creating an easy caring, and comfortable atmosphere for all.”

Jordan Kington - “I loved the SADD National LEadership workshop because I could meet other up-and-coming leaders in NZ, who are also passionate about road safety. The workshop developed my leadership skills and taught me even more about SADD. Leaving here I’m a part of a fun team of like-minded people.”

Lena Dupu - “The Yr 12 NLP event this year was so beneficial and held some cool sessions and ideas that we can bring home with us. I had so much fun meeting new people and hanging out with the whole team.”

Tara Scott - “My highlight was definitely meeting new people and developing strong connections with others from all over the country.”

Nandini Saily - “It was so much fun playing laser tag and having late-night talks. It was pretty cool how we all clicked together, and never had an awkward moment and the sessions were very entertaining.”

Zac Perrett - “It was good to finally meet the other national leaders from all over the nation, so that was good. My highlight would have to be the laser tag, creating the ads in groups, and the scavenger hunt. It was good to interact with the activities.”

Mira Matthews - “This has been a really fun and inspiring workshop where I have been able to develop my leadership skills and gotten ideas to spread SADD around my school and community.”

We are really looking forward to seeing all the work this group of young leaders put in over the next year, and also seeing how they grow their own skills. Having such high-quality young people involved with SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara is such a win for us as an organisation!
