Exam time stress? Tips to get you through

We are so lucky to have our newest addition to the team, Lauren. Prior to joining the Kaitiaki o Ara team Lauren worked as a guidance counselor based in schools as well as running her own practice mainly working with rangatahi. We thought we would take advantage of this skillset and pick her brains!

Around exam time Lauren would always notice a shift in stress levels in students. Many students prioritise their study over their basic well-being, as well as taking on the pressures to succeed from those around them. It can all be a bit much.  Read on to learn some tips and tricks to keep sane over the exam season…

Fuel Your Body, Fuel Your Brain

Get prepped and have some quick, healthy snacks ready to go. That’s one less thing to stress about. Here’s some ideas.

  • Banana and peanut butter—easy and packed with energy!

  • Greek yogurt and berries for a quick boost.

  • Trail mix for healthy fats and protein.

Study Break Ideas

Studying for hours on end can be exhausting. Remember to take a breather to come back stronger. Here are some quick ideas to recharge.

  • Streeeeeeetch

  • Dance to your favorite song

  • 5 deep breaths, try box breathing

  • Drink a glass of water

Time Management

Are you that person who’s up till 3am the night before an exam, forcing every last grain of knowledge into your brain? Sound familiar? Planning your study ahead of time will help with stress and your future self will love you for it! Getting a good night's sleep will serve you.

All still a bit much? Remember even though they’re on study leave you can still go in and see your guidance counselor or career counselor for that little bit extra support.

Hopefully something here helps and we wish you all the best with your exam! Kia kaha team!
