Tell us a little bit about yourself Sacha.

“I’m Sacha a year 13 student from Paraparaumu college on the Kāpiti Coast. I am a pretty active individual who enjoys playing sports. My two favourite sports that I enjoy are Rugby and Cheerleading. I was actually successful in being selected in the National Cheerleading squad in 2020 but unfortunately due to Covid last year it was cancelled.”

Have you always lived in Paraparaumu?

“I have lived in Paraparaumu most of my life apart from last year where I moved to Auckland on my own for sports which was and awesome experience.”

What made you want to get involved in SADD this year?

“I was talking to my teacher about trying out some new things to get involved with this year which has opportunities to get involved in my community and SADD seemed to spark my interests, so I checked out the website.”

What are some of the road safety issues you have noticed in your community / School?

“Just seeing and hearing people not caring about the consequences of their actions especially around road safety. I notice when people first get their restricted license, they become way to relaxed when driving and following the road rules.”

Paraparaumu College is one of two schools along with Kāpiti College who are starting up SADD in the Kāpiti Coast region this term which is really positive seeing students stepping up as leaders and getting SADD going in there region.

If you are wanting to get something started with SADD in your school it is never too late in the year, just reach out to one of our Delivery Leads, check out more of our website for inspiration, and get going making a difference in your community!
