Change is afoot at Kaitiaki o Ara!
We’re no strangers to change here at Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD, in fact we embrace it! We are excited to introduce some changes that have been in the works for some time, and we can’t wait to hear what you think.
Over the course of the last 2 years, SADD has been on a journey of growth and exploration. That journey culminated in 2022 with the introduction of our Māori name, Kaitiaki o Ara. Since then we have undertaken wide consultation to help develop our programme framework.
We have referred to our programme framework as the 6 Principles since their inception in 2014. The Principles underpinned what we did, how we encouraged students to engage with our programme and how we supported youth across Aotearoa in their understanding. They were also the driver in educating their peers on key road safety issues affecting young people across the country.
The 6 Principles have been a fantastic and easy to understand framework. However, the time is right to refresh how we implement our vision and address road safety as it stands today. Our rebrand has also been the catalyst to look at our framework and in response, we introduce our Programme Aspirations here.
Our Programme Aspirations don’t replace the 6 Principles, instead they expand on them. We have introduced 4 Aspirations – Safe road users, Sharing our Roads, Safe Vehicles, and Driver licence journey. All of the original 6 Principles are represented within these Aspirations, alongside additional road user issues affecting Kiwis in 2023 and beyond.
Along with our new programme framework, we have also refreshed our suite of print resources. These include some of our most popular poster designs that have been given a makeover as well as some brand new designs that came from ideas of our students. These posters can be downloaded from our website or hard-copies can be ordered for free.
Our rebrand is continuing throughout 2023, with new videos, activity plans, additional resource and merchandise designs, and more still to come. We invite you to come on this journey with us, test out our resources, engage with our content and most importantly – let us know what you think!
Ngā mihi,
The Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD team
