This week is Rail Safety Week!
This week, it is Rail Safety Week—a time to heighten awareness about staying safe while crossing the tracks.
You might have heard the term “steely stare.” We are encouraging everyone to practice this when approaching railway crossings.
Have you been practicing your “steely stare”? Check out this video to learn how to do it: Steely Stare Video
Last year, the team at SADD made our own steely stare video. How did we do? Take a look here: SADD Steely Stare Video
If you’re keen to get involved in Rail Safety Week, there are many ways to do so. Visit our website at sadd.org.nz, and on the home page, you’ll find some SADD activities adapted for rail safety. Reach out to your local delivery lead if you need help with this!
If you manage to do something related to rail safety this week, make sure you send us a photo of you doing it! It could be you practicing your steely stare, a photo of your group doing a rail safety awareness activity, or a photo of you safely crossing the tracks. The more content we have, the more we can raise awareness about this important issue. As an incentive, we’ve got some PRIZES to give away to those who send us their rail safety-themed photos and videos.
Remember, staying safe while crossing the tracks doesn’t end with this week. We want to start a rail safety culture in Aotearoa. Near misses and accidents have real consequences and affect many people! Let’s create some positive ripples this week to encourage our friends and whānau to stop, think, steely stare, and ensure it’s all clear before crossing.
For more information on how to get involved, check out the KiwiRail website here: KiwiRail Safety and the TrackSafe website here: TrackSafe. You can also listen to MoreFM tomorrow morning at 7:15 AM to hear one of our awesome Regional Leaders, Leo, speak about rail safety. Go Leo! MoreFM Wairarapa
