SAFER September helped me involve my school community in raising awareness to keep New Zealand roads safe.

Our national annual SADD road safety awareness month (previously Remember September) made a stunning debut rebranded as SAFER September – Student Advocates For Everyone’s Road Safety. SADD committees are active throughout the year, but SAFER September provides a platform for focussed awareness and activities, such as the aforementioned door dressing competitions and cake decorating competitions. Schools from Invercargill to Auckland got behind the campaign with a variety of creative ideas. Many schools took this opportunity to take advantage of their local emergency services by involving them in their school events. Te Puke High School put the icing on the cake – literally. Their cake decorating competition had an immense impact with schools around New Zealand and was sure to yield some delicious results. A few schools opted to bring the “Booze Bus,” in for an educational, and eye opening activity for students.  To have a look at some of the other fantastic work other schools have done, have a look through their instagrams:

We had so many students come together to raise awareness about how to keep safe. SAFER September helped all of us to reflect on key steps behind keeping safe on the roads.
