Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD in partnership with the Police Pathways Program
In 2020 Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD and the Police Pathways Program started working together. Over the past two years, we have developed a well-functioning partnership that benefits everyone. On this page, you can find guides, resources and tips and tricks on how to implement Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD into your Police Pathways Program. Road trauma is still massively impacting young people, that is why we work together with the Police Pathways Program to help and support young people on their journey
How we work together
This is a collection of pictures from all our previous workshops. We delivered workshops in different formats depending on capacity. Our community partners support us whenever their schedule allows.
The benefits of Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD in the PPP curriculum.
Here is a brief overview on how Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD fits the criteria of Unit Standard 9681. There are many benefits that can help you and your students.
How to guide for teachers/ facilitators
We have created an Index document for anyone who wants to facilitate these workshops. This document will help you to navigate through it all step by step. Each step will have additional links and resources for you to download.
Workshops
Depending on your capacity and schedule you can choose from different formats. The session can be delivered in a full day workshop format. You can run this workshop with your students only or do it in a cluster workshop with other schools in your area. The other option is to run it in two smaller sessions. In the following two sections you will find more information and downloadable resources on how to prepare your students and how to facilitate the workshops. Please contact Sandra sandra@sadd.org.nz for any booking requests.
How to prepare your students
In this section, you can find pre-workshop tasks that will help them to familiarise themselves with the Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD kaupapa. We recommend allowing time for the students to browse through our website and the other resource links in the document. Based on our experience the students will more likely absorb all the given information during the workshop. Additionally, this pack includes an in depths document on 'How to run a Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD activity at your school'.
Download all your resources
We have designed the resources based on our practical experiences. You can download all the resources you need to prepare for the workshop below. We have included a checklist that will help you to ensure you are well prepared for the sessions. There is an example agenda that you can use as a template and tailor it to your needs. We have designed two presentation options for you. One is for a full day event and the other is for a 90 minute session. Additionally there is a suggestion on how you can divide the session, but feel free to run the sessions in the way it fits in best with your curriculum. All these resources are there to help you and can be amended to your needs.
Activity Examples
Here you can find examples of different activities that you can run with your students to keep your session interactive.
Run a competition
We have designed guidelines and flyers for running a competition. It is a fun way for students to engage in a group activity and design resources.
