Yr 13 NLP Event Re-cap 2022
Last week we ran our Yr 13 National Leadership Programme event and it was an awesome time! Check out some comments from our Yr 13’s themselves, and photos from the event below.
In the first week of the school holidays we spent a few days hanging out with our Yr 13 National Leaders. We talked about things like transformational leadership, Road to Zero, common issues they face, new SADD posters, and lots, lots more! They are an impressive group of rangatahi, and the staff team that attended was so proud of all the work they each put in to represent SADD students at a national level and make our roads safer! Check out what they had to say about the event.
Vaughan - “The second and last NLP event has been great fun. It has been awesome to spend time developing our leadership skills and working on content to promote road safety messages. Seeing what everyone else is doing with their projects, then being able to showcase my own work and get feedback was my favourite part. It was also great to have discussions on how to get fellow young people to take us and our messages seriously, talk about Road to Zero, and the exciting development of new SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara posters.”
Jeremy - “It’s been a blast working alongside other National Leaders over the last few days and the last year as a whole. We have so much fun together and come up with some amazing ideas. We’ve all built up some great chemistry.”
Tayla - “Over these past few days, I’ve had such an amazing time seeing everyone again. It went so quickly but I loved every minute of it! I learnt so much about myself, but had so much fun with the other NLs and the best team of mentors/Delivery Leads. Thank you to everyone who has made my time here so special.”
Zoe - “I loved getting drenched on the first day, and listening to some DnB in the car with Mark!”
Amy - “Was a great 3 days hanging out with everyone and expanding on ways we can increase youth engagement in our schools and communities.”
Maddie - “The NLP meet-up was such a fun, memorable experience! I loved visiting Christchurch and having the opportunity to finally meet everyone! Thanks SADD for making these meet-ups possible!
George - “The NLP course for 2022 was a great time, I had a heap of fun while having some great discussions with my peers.”
Fergus - “This SADD workshop has been incredible. SADD has shown yet again that it’s a student-led group, giving us many opportunities over the workshop to contribute and add to the direction of SADD. We cannot thank you enough, it has been an incredible opportunity. Some work needs to be done, and SADD’s out there doing it.”
Akshara - “I really enjoyed my time in Christchurch with the other Yr 13 NL’s because we had so many laughs and giggles even while collaborating with each other to solve problems that all of us tend to face. We all learnt so much that we can take back to our school SADD groups.”
Emma - “The NLP gives me the opportunity to have a voice and meet like-minded students from all over NZ. Making memories while doing something worthwhile for Aotearoa. We (SADD Students), aren’t here to police your life, but to encourage you to minimise risks that could save your life and others.
Derryn - “I really enjoyed listening to everyone’s projects and what they are doing for them. I like how everyone saw a different issue and what to do to fix them.”
We are so looking forward to continuing to work with our Yr 13 National Leaders for the rest of the year. We know they still have some awesome mahi to do, and will be making an impact on their peers. Thanks for standing up for road safety, and being leaders in Aotearoa!
