Introducing Sherein!

It has been a busy couple of months for SADD, inducting new staff members. Last month we introduced you all to Mark - our new Lower South Island, Programme Delivery Lead...and this month we would like to introduce you to Sherein - our new Lower North Island, Programme Delivery Lead. We are stoked to have Sherein on board, taking up where Jay left off. She is based in Pōneke (Wellington) and will be hanging out and supporting all our awesome SADD young people in the Wellington, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Central North Island, Taranaki and Bay of Plenty regions. Let’s get to know a bit more about Sherein!

So Sherein, tell us a little about yourself?

I originally started out as a qualified Interior design and Graphic designer and ended up heading into education after relieving from my old design school. I spent 12 years working with Yoobee Colleges teaching to mainly young adults across a number of different creative media courses, from graphics, UX, intro to film and 2D animation, etc.

I love to travel and was introduced to Worldskills in 2014 (an international world competition for vocational skills with youth - similar to the Olympics), where I was the skill manager - mentoring/coaching competitors, and was an international judge for Graphic Design for NZ.

I have done a small teaching exchange in China and project managed an international study tour.

I also love doing creative projects, inventing things, and problem-solving. I collect lego for a long-term art project and I can’t go a day without getting walking in, and am a bit obsessed with my walking app.

What excites you about working with SADD?

  • The work through SADD and the principles/values it holds, run in line with my own.

  • Being part of SADD to help NZ and communities in order to prevent injuries and save lives is exciting.

  • I myself survived someone crashing into me at high speed, so the topic of road safety is close to my heart. Plus I love that I get to work with young people still.

What does Road Safety mean to you?

Working to create safer roads and places for all users; from vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, dogs, etc… and building awareness to prevent injury and deaths.

You are stuck on a deserted island, what three things do you take with you?

  1. Insect repellent - Insects love me but I don’t feel the same about them :)

  2. Off the grid mobile Tiny house (I use to be obsessed with them and one day want to build one of my own)

  3. Music would be a must

Would you rather vacation in Hawaii or Alaska, and why?

Hawaii - I love the warmth, beaches, etc. I lived in Brazil for a bit, I do miss the long sunny warm/hot days.

We are very happy to have Sherein on board and if she reaches out to you, be friendly and welcoming!
