SAFER September 2021
Student Advocates For Everyone’s Road Safety
SEPTEMBER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SPECIAL MONTH FOR SADD AND IS THE MAIN CALENDAR EVENT OF OUR STUDENT-LED MOVEMENT. WHAT BEGAN AS SADD WEEK MORPHED INTO REMEMBER SEPTEMBER 6 YEARS AGO AND THEN EVOLVED INTO SAFER SEPTEMBER IN 2019.
SAFER is an acronym and describes what we ask young student leaders across the country to be – student advocates for everyone’s road safety. We ask them to #speakup on the subject of people who are killed or seriously injured on our roads. We encourage them to start conversations on driver behaviour and to promote positive choices for safer road use within their school community. Students achieve this through running a range of activities and events
Sign up for SAFER September and we will send you an info pack to help you plan!
The first 50 schools to register will also receive 30 brand new SADD car air fresheners (15 of each design). Use them as prizes or sell them as a fundraiser- you choose. Act quick because they are limited and once they’re gone – they’re gone!
Registration will give you a chance to tell us what you have planned. Alternatively, simply contact us to help you work through the ideas stage. We have a friendly team geared up to help you with ideas, guidance and tips and tricks for a successful running of SAFER September activities in your school or community.
*only one sign up per school

Sample plans
We have created three plans that each have different activity ideas for SAFER September. The awesome thing about SAFER September is that you are not restricted by format - you are welcome to participate in any way that suits you, in fact we encourage it! You can even run an event in August or October if that works best for your school. Some schools may choose to run a bunch of activities throughout the month, for others it may suit better to hold one awesome day. Check out the plans below for some ideas and don’t forget to take a look at our activities page for even more inspiration!
Activity ideas
There are a bunch of SADD activities you can run over the month to create awareness and spark conversation.

2020
The year 2020 saw world changes we couldn't have planned for! With all the disruptions and uncertainty schools across the country have faced this year, we weren’t sure what to expect from this year’s SAFER September, however we have been blown away by the effort and passion we have seen from many schools who participated in the campaign.
September has been an opportunity to celebrate SADD students standing up for road safety, raising awareness of issues plaguing their communities and promoting positive choices for their peers. We have seen a range of awesome activities, media features, social media posts and increased engagement from students nationwide. Thank you to everyone who got involved in some way, we hope you had fun!
Media Articles
Spotlight On:
Chanel College
At Chanel College we ran an Amazing Race activity. There were four stations around the school corresponding to the Letters of SADD: S A D and D. Students began with a cryptic clue for where to go first, with different students starting at different stations. After correctly guessing what the violation was in each scenario, the students were given the clue to the next station. It was received very well by the junior school, who were all very energetic and got straight into it.
2019
September has always been a special month for SADD and is the main calendar event of our student-led movement. In 2019, our first time re-branded as SAFER September, saw activities from all over the country, increased collaborations with community partners, and many media articles highlighting the work our fantastic young leaders do in their school communities.
SAFER September asked our young people to speak up on our road toll, promote positive choices for safe road use, and advocate for everyone’s road safety. Thanks to the AA Driving School for their support and prizes. Read more about it in our blog here, and check out some great photos and quotes below!
